"City of Gold" is written in large letters above the entrance to the gold-souk. Annually, Dubai imports 10% of the global production of the precious metal. All that glitters here is actually gold. Every year 30 t in the form of jewelry are sold over the counter. Because the work of the Indian goldsmiths determines the value of the jewellery only marginally, the price of precious arises solely from its weight. Here, the true gentleman buys not only a ring or a bracelet, but, for example, 1 kg of gold of jewellery. Every evening the same sight meets your eyes: Several ladies, wrapped in black abayas, and a gentleman in his white cotton garment accumulate rings, bracelets and chains on the scale of the bullion trader.
„City of Gold“ steht in großen Lettern am Eingang des Goldsuqs. Jährlich importiert Dubai 10 % der Weltproduktion des Edelmetalls. Alles, was hier glänzt, ist wirklich Gold. Jedes Jahr wandern 30 t in Form von Schmuck über den Ladentisch. Weil die Arbeit der indischen Goldschmiede nur minimal den Wert des Schmuckstücks bestimmt, errechnet sich der Preis der Kostbarkeiten ausschließlich aus dem Gewicht. Der wahre Gentleman kauft hier nicht einen Ring oder ein Armband, sondern beispielsweise 1 kg Goldschmuck. Allabendlich bietet sich folgendes Bild: Mehrere in schwarze abayas gehüllte Damen und ein Herr in weißer Baumwolltracht häufen Ringe, Armbänder und Ketten auf die Waagschale des Goldhändlers.
