The country presents itself in a bizarre way and almost jokingly but for the people a drab and dreary reality without any perspective lies behind. State terrorism and reprisal are on the agenda. With the dead of Niyazov hope for a slow opening of the country germinated. Until now it has not been fulfilled, but hope is the last thing to die. At least, tourists are allowed into the country now and some day, sooner or later, also the dictatorial regime of Ashgabat will collapse in its own swamp of corruption.

So bizarr und geradezu scherzhaft sich das Land auch darstellt, für die Bevölkerung liegt dahinter eine triste und trostlose Realität ohne jede Perspektive. Staatsterror und Repressalien der Polizei stehen auf der Tagesordnung. Mit dem Tod von Nijasow keimen zarte Hoffnungen auf eine langsame Öffnung des Landes. Bislang wurden sie nicht erfüllt. Doch die Hoffnung lebt. Immerhin lässt man schon Touristen ins Land und irgendwann, früher oder später, wird auch das dikatorische Regime von Ashgabat im Sumpf seiner eigenen Korruption ersticken.
