The Roman city offered every possible comfort of that time with theatres, markets and meeting places. Subterranean water pipeline and sewage systems were part of the achievements which were not available to European cities again until the 18th century. Romans knew how to live good lifes true to the motto of Horaz: "Seize the day, but use it!"
Auch sonst bot eine römische Metropole mit Theatern, Märkten und Versammlungsplätzen jeden damals erdenklichen Komfort. Ein unterirdisches Wasserleitungs- und Kanalisationssystem gehörte zu jenen Errungenschaften, über die europäische Städte erst wieder ab dem 18. Jahrhundert verfügten. Die Römer wussten zu leben ganz nach dem Motto von Horaz: „Genieße den Tag, aber nutze ihn!“.
