80% of the agricultural area of South Korea is planted with rice. Being self-sufficient in staple foods has the highest priority in Korea. Rice has become the most important foodstuff despite the high demand of water and the labour intensive cultivation.
80% aller landwirtschaftlichen Flächen Südkoreas sind der Reispflanze gewidmet. Die Selbstversorgung mit diesem Grundnahrungsmittel steht an oberster Stelle der Prioritätenliste Koreas. Trotz des hohen Wasserbedarfs und der arbeitsintensiven Bewirtschaftung stieg Reis zum bedeutendsten Nahrungsmittel auf.
