Siq#

After walking for 15 minutes one reaches the entrance to the Siq. This canyon of 1.2 km of length used to be the only way to reach Petra and therefore made the city a “safe haven” for its inhabitants and the merchants, who were being protected by rock walls and mountains on all sides.
Nach viertelstündigem Fußmarsch ist der Eingang zum Siq erreicht. Die 1,2 km lange Schlucht bildete früher den einzigen Weg nach Petra und machte die Stadt für Bewohner und Händler zum „sicheren Hafen“, rundum geschützt von mächtigen Felswänden und Gebirgsmassiven.
