In antiquity the Dead Sea posed many riddles to the people of this area. For example, oil was emitted from underground holes and reached the surface as tar. The Nabateans had used this asphalt as a lucrative trading good with the Egyptians.
Im Altertum gab das Tote Meer den Menschen viele Rätsel auf. Beispielsweise strömte aus unterirdischen Löchern Erdöl, das als Teer nach oben stieg. Schon die Nabatäer machten mit dem Asphalt lukrative Geschäftemit Ägypten.
