At the beginning of the month of Moharram the Ashura festival is celebrated. For this purpose the approximately 450 years old Nakhls of Yazd are decorated by colorful fabrics and curried in processions by many people through the city. The ceremony dates back to the Safavid time, a dynasty that reigned 1501–1722 and introduced the Shiite version of Islam as state religion.
Zu Beginn des Monats Moharram wird das Ashura Fest gefeiert. Für diesen Zweck werden die ca. 450 Jahre alten "Nakhls of Yazd" mit farbenprächtigen Tüchern geschmückt und in Prozessionen von vielen Menschen durch die Stadt getragen. Diese Zeremonie geht auf die Zeit der Safaviden zurück, eine Fürstendynastie, die von 1501–1722 regierte und den schiitischen Islam als Staatsreligion etablierte.
