Auf dem Weg ins tibetisch geprägte Spiti-Tal wartet die erste große Hürde einer Himalaya-Durchquerung. Der Rothang Pass Rohtang Pass, India bringt es zwar nur knapp auf eine Höhe von 4000 m, doch gehört er trotzdem zu den schwierigsten Pässen der Gebirgskette. Es gibt nicht viele Ort auf der Welt, die eine so spektakuläre Klimascheide bilden. Im Süden stauen sich die regengeschwängerten Monsunwolken an den steilen Flanken und lassen mystische Nebelwälder gedeihen. An der nördlichen Seite wandelt sich die Landschaft schlagartig zur trockenen Wüstensteppe.

On the way to the Tibetan Spiti Valley awaits the first major hurdle of a Himalayan crossing. The Rothang Pass Rohtang Pass, India , which only barely reaches an altitude of 4,000 meters, is still one of the most difficult passes in the mountain range. There are not many places in the world that make such a spectacular climate. In the south, the rain-soaked monsoon clouds accumulate on the steep flanks, allowing mystical cloud forests to thrive. On the northern side the landscape changes abruptly to the dry desert steppe.
