Royal Palace#

Mit seiner hochgezogenen, von schmalen Fenstern durchbrochenen Fassade erinnert der Königspalast an sein Vorbild, den Potala in Lhasa. Bis zum Niedergang der ladakhischen Selbständigkeit Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts bildete er das politische Zentrum des Landes. Danach zog die entmachtete Herrscherfamilie in den nahe gelegenen Palast von Stok um. Seitdem ist das Gebäude dem Verfall preisgegeben.
With its raised facade and narrow windows, the Royal Palace is reminiscent of its model, the Potala in Lhasa. Until the decline of Ladakh independence in the mid-19th century, it was the political center of the country. After that, the deprived ruling family moved to the nearby palace of Stok. Since then, the building has been abandoned to decay.
