Trotz der dünnen Luft und dem wüstenhaften Klima zeigt sich die Vegetation erstaunlich üppig. Besonders häufig trifft man auf eine Pflanze, die aus dem Himalaya stammt, erst nach der letzten Eiszeit bis Europa vordrang und dort zum Wahrzeichen der Alpen wurde: das Edelweiss.
Despite the rare air and the desert-like climate, the vegetation is surprisingly abundant. It is especially common to find a plant that originates from the Himalayas, only reached Europe after the last ice age and became the symbol of the Alps there: the Edelweiss.
