Für den Tempelbesuch holt man schon mal seine schönsten Saris aus dem Schrank. Hinduistische Kultstätten bestehen aus mehreren Schreinen und einem Tempel im Zentrum. Er beherbergt die Cella mit dem Kultbild des jeweiligen Gottes. Die ausstrahlende göttliche Energie versinnbildlicht der hoch aufragende Tempelturm, der als Verkörperung des Weltenberges Meru gilt. Der mythische Berg, der oftmals mit dem tibetischen Kailas gleichgesetzt wird, gilt Buddhisten wie Hinduisten als Wohnsitz der Götter und Mittelpunkt des Universums.
