Die Viehzucht spielt kaum eine wirtschaftliche Rolle, obwohl mehr als 200 Mio. Rinder die Strassen Indiens bevölkern. Niemand stört sich daran. Auch die Schlachtbank braucht keine indische Kuh zu fürchten, denn die gemächlichen Tiere gelten den Hindus als heilig. Schon in den ältesten Schriften des Hinduismus, den Veden, wird die Kuh als göttliche Erdmutter verehrt.
Livestock farming hardly plays an economic role, even though more than 200 million cattle populate the streets of India. Nobody bothers about it. There´s no need for any Indian cow to fear slaughter, for the leisurely animals are considered sacred to the Hindus. Even in the oldest scriptures of Hinduism, the Vedas, the cow is worshiped as a divine earth mother.
