Das angenehme Klima der Gegend schätzte schon der russische Maler Nicolas Roehrich, der hier in den 1930er Jahren eine neue Heimat fand. Seine über 7000 Gemälde widmen sich vornehmlich demHimalaya. Weil er sich besonders für den Schutz von Kulturgütern nach dem Motto „Frieden durch Kultur“ einsetzte, war er mehrfach für den Nobelpreis nominiert. Zudem gründete er eine kuriose Einheitsphilosophie, in der der russisch-orthodoxe Glauben mit Buddhismus, Hinduismus und sogar Einsteins Relativitätstheorie verschmolz.
The pleasant climate of the area was appreciated by the Russian painter Nicolas Roehrich, who found a new home here in the 1930s. His more than 7,000 paintings are primarily devoted to the Himalayas. Because he was particularly committed to the protection of cultural assets according to the motto "peace through culture", he was several times nominated for the Nobel Prize. He also founded a curious unity philosophy in which the Russian Orthodox faith merged with Buddhism, Hinduism and even Einstein's Theory of Relativity.
