Famous is the Gompa for her oracle, which occurs only once a year during a winter convent festival, to predict the future and invoke evil spirits. Since ancient times, oracles have played a major role in the life of the Ladakhis. For difficult problems, only the gods can help. These take possession of selected people and answer the questions of the faithful through them. It also helps against illnesses. For that the oracle is shown the exact spot of pain, it sucks out blood there with its mouth and with the blood also the illness from the body. For the human organism, the oracle service is a tremendous burden, especially when it comes to such highly regarded clairvoyants as the state oracle of Matho, where kings once sought advice. In each case, two monks of the monastery determined by the lot transform themselves into the wrathful guardian deity Rongtsan at the oracle festival. Just two months before their performance, they live in complete seclusion and spiritual absorption. Gradually they fall into a trance. Then the deity invades, the bodies begin to twitch wildly and are now ready to receive the counselors.
