Oben bei der Festung begrüßt die 'Mutter Georgiens' die Besucher. Die 20 m hohe Aluminiumstatue, errichtet 1958 anlässlich des 1500-jährigen Stadtjubiläums, bringt das Selbstverständnis der Georgier zum Ausdruck: in der rechten Hand das Schwert gegen den Feind, in der von Herzen kommenden linken Hand eine Schale mit Wein für den Freund und Gast.
At the top, where the fortress is, the 'Mother of Georgia' welcomes visitors. The 20-meter-high aluminum statue, erected in 1958 on the occasion of the 1500th anniversary of the city, expresses the self-concept of the Georgians: in the right hand the sword against the enemy, in the left hand a bowl of wine for the friend and guest.
