More than 300,000 inhabitants make Monywa a busy metropolis. In the city’s center a statue of the national hero Aung San serves as a reminder. He had served as the commander of the Burmese army in the successful struggle for independence against the British colonial masters. He is the father of Aung San Suu Kyi, Nobel price awardee.
Über 300.000 Einwohner machen Monywa zur geschäftigen Metropole. Im Stadtzentrum erinnert eine Statue an den Nationalhelden Aung San, der als Kommandeur die burmesische Armee erfolgreich in den Unabhängigkeitskampf gegen die britischen Kolonialherren führte. Er ist der Vater der Friedensnobelpreisträgerin Aung San Suu Kyi.
