The area is known for its masterful varnishing works. A flexible wicker work of animal hair and bamboo fibers is covered I several layers of varnish and then ornaments are carved into it. Since every color means another layer and therefore requires a drying and grinding process, the manufacturing of a high-end vessel takes several weeks. By the way: the varnish is obtained from the sap of the lacquer tree.
Die Gegend ist bekannt für ihre meisterhaften Lackarbeiten. Auf ein flexibles Geflecht aus Tierhaar und Bambusfasern werden unzählige Lackschichten aufgetragen und Ornamente eingeritzt. Da jede Farbe eine weitere Schicht und einen neuen Trocknungs- und Schleifgang erfordert, dauert die Herstellung eines hochwertigen Gefäßes mehrere Wochen. Übrigens: der Lack wird aus dem Saft des Lackbaumes gewonnen.
