Nachdem der Platz im Kapitol nicht mehr ausreichte, übersiedelte das Höchstgericht in einen Neubau direkt gegenüber, der einem griechischen Tempel nachempfunden wurde. Hinter 6 t schweren Bronzetüren tagt der Supreme Court, der Oberste Gerichtshof der USA. Er besteht aus 9 Richtern, die vom Präsidenten vorgeschlagen und mit Zustimmung des Senates berufen werden – auf Lebenszeit. Meist prüft der Supreme Court die Verfassungsmäßigkeit von Gesetzen und Handlungen der Exekutive einschließlich des Präsidenten..
When space in the Capitol became insufficient, the Supreme Court moved into a new building directly opposite modelled on a Greek temple. Behind bronze doors of 6 tons meets US the Supreme Court. It consists of 9 judges, proposed by the President and appointed with the approval of the Senate - for life. Mostly, the Supreme Court scrutinizes the constitutionality of laws and acts of the executive including the president.
