Canal Street 29.9554,-90.0721 is a major thoroughfare in New Orleans. It forms the upriver boundary of the French Quarter and serves historically as the dividing line between the colonial-era (18th century) and the newer American Sector (Central Business District today). The street has three lanes of traffic in both directions and a pair of streetcars in the middle.
