Jackson Square is a historic park in the French Quarter that was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960 designated as one of America's Great Public Spaces in 2012. It covers an area of 1 acre (0.40 ha) is the annual host of festivals. From the 1920s through the 1980s the square was famous as a gathering place of painters.
