St. Augustine Oldest School#
The Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse 29.89736,-81.31355 is located at 14 St. George Street in St. Augustine, near the city gate. It is said to be the oldest wooden school building in the United Stated, although the exact date of construction of unknown. The walls are made of bald cypress and red cedar which are held together by wooden pins and iron spikes. It received recent maintenance such as a new roof and various other fixes. The school was shared by boys and girls and the schoolmaster and his family lived on the second floor above the classroom.
