Mopane Trees#

Airy mixed forests dominate the vegetation in the national park. Besides acacia and teak mopane trees are most prevalent. This foliage tree, ideally adapted to dry and loamy soils reaches heights of up to 18 m and is the home for the mopane caterpillar, which is not only an important source of protein but also a tasty delicacy for the locals.
Lichte Mischwälder dominieren die Vegetation im Nationalpark. Neben Akazien- und Teakhölzern sind Mopane-Bäume am weitesten verbreitet. Der ideal an trockene und lehmige Böden angepasste Laubbaum erreicht Höhen von bis zu 18 m und bildet die Heimat für die Mopane-Raupe, die bei Einheimischen nicht nur als wichtige Proteinquelle sondern auch als schmackhafte Delikatesse gilt.
