always knew how to benefit from their strategic position at the intersection of trade routes. A few years ago, a new source of income was discovered, which the city now owes the epithet 'Hollywood in the desert'. Three film studios offer the infrastructure of any kind for international productions. The surrounding area has served as an exotic film set for many blockbusters such as 'Lawrence of Arabia', 'Gladiator', 'Kundun' or 'Asterix and Cleopatra'.

ihre strategisch günstige Lage am Schnittpunkt von Handelswegen zu nutzen. Vor einigen Jahren hat man eine neue Einkommensnische entdeckt, die der Stadt den Beinamen 'Hollywood in der Wüste' verdankt. Drei Filmstudios bieten jegliche Infrastruktur für internationale Produktionen. Die Umgebung diente schon vielen Blockbustern wie 'Lawrence von Arabien', 'Gladiator', 'Kundun' oder 'Asterix und Kleopatra' als exotische Filmkulisse.
