The tomb of Moulay Idris Moulay Idriss, Morocco ensures constant stream of pilgrims. Like an amphitheatre, Morocco's most important place of pilgrimage nestles on a steep hill. The city was founded in 788 by Moulay Idriss, the founder of the first Moroccan Empire. He was a direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad, converted the Berber tribes to Islam, became their leader, united Northern Morocco and made Moulay Idriss its capital, where, today, also his tomb can be found. Seven pilgrimages here are equivalent to one pilgrimage to Mecca. Until 1917, the entire city was taboo for non-Muslims. Until today, the access to the actual place of worship remains reserved to Muslim believers only.

Das Grabmal von Moulay Idris Moulay Idriss, Morocco sorgt für stetige Pilgerströme. Wie ein Amphitheater schmiegt sich Marokkos wichtigster Wallfahrtsort über einen steil aufragenden Hügel. Gegründet wurde die Stadt anno 788 durch Moulay Idriss, den Ahnherrn des ersten marokkanischen Reiches. Er war ein direkter Nachkomme des Propheten Mohammed, bekehrte die Berberstämme zum Islam, wurde zu ihrem Anführer, einigte Nordmarokko und machte Moulay Idriss zur Hauptstadt, wo sich auch seine Grabstätte befindet. Sieben Wallfahrten hierher ersetzen eine Pilgerfahrt nach Mekka. Bis 1917 war die gesamte Stadt für Nichtmuslime tabu. Das Betreten der eigentlichen Kultstätte bleibt bis heute ausschließlich Gläubigen vorbehalten.
