Around the courtyard of the madrasas small cells demonstrate the austere life of the students. Only modest mats provided a touch of comfort. Up to 900 students had to share a bathroom. In addition to Koran study and the Islamic law secular subjects were on the curriculum: the study of mathematics, astronomy, geography, medicine and philosophy. Those who successfully passed an entry exam were allowed to study at a madrasa from the age of 8 years. On average, the education lasted 15 years. A special feature in higher education was that several teachers had a similar offer at the same time and the students could single one out. The reputation of the teacher increased with the number of his students.
Rund um den Innenhof der Medresen zeugen kleine Zellen vom kargen Leben der Studenten. Nur schlichte Matten sorgten für einen Hauch von Komfort. Bis zu 900 Schüler mußten sich ein Badezimmer teilen. Neben Koranstudium und islamischem Recht standen säkuläre Fächer am Programm: Mathematik, Astronomie, Geographie, Medizin und Philosophie. Wer eine Aufnahmsprüfung erfolgreich absolvierte, konnte ab einem Alter von 8 Jahren an einer Medrese studieren. Die Ausbildung dauerte im Schnitt 15 Jahre. Eine Besonderheit in höheren Lehrgängen bestand darin, dass mehrere Lehrer gleichzeitig ein ähnliches Angebot hatten und die Schüler sich ihren Lehrer auswählen konnten. Das Ansehen des Lehrers stieg mit der Zahl seiner Schüler.
