In close vicinity to the palace district the borough of Mellah developed, a refuge for the Jews who were under the protection of the sultan. However, they had to purchase them by high head taxes.
In unmittelbarer Nähe zum Palastbezirk wurde das Stadtviertel Mellah errichtet, Zufluchtsort für die Juden, die unter dem Schutz des Sultans standen. Diesen mußten sie sich jedoch durch hohe Kopfsteuern erkaufen.
