Hardly anyone here could afford a classy dinner at Rick's Cafe. The cafe owes its fame to the legendary romantic drama 'Casablanca' of 1942 as the plot for some key scenes of the tragic love between Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Many quotations from the classic movie have entered common parlance. The reason for Rick's Cafe being back in the centre of Casablanca in its original splendour is due to the clever business idea of a US diplomat. In real life, it existed only in Hollywood, just as no single take of the whole movie was done in Morocco. The cinematic masterpiece was produced entirely in film studios.
Wohl kaum jemand könnte sich hier ein nobles Dinner in Rick´s Cafe leisten. Seine Berühmtheit verdankt das Cafe dem legendären Liebes-Melodram 'Casablanca' aus dem Jahr 1942, wo sich entscheidende Szenen in der tragischen Liebe zwischen Humphrey Bogart und Ingrid Bergman abspielten. So manche Zitate aus dem Filmklassiker sind gleichsam in den Allgemein-Wortschatz eingeflossen. Dass Rick's Cafe nun wieder in originaler Pracht mitten in Casablanca erstrahlt, ist der findigen Geschäftsidee einer US-Diplomatin zu verdanken. Tatsächlich existierte es nämlich nur in Hollywood, so wie auch keine einzige Szene des Films in Marokko gedreht wurde. Das cineastische Meisterwerk entstand zur Gänze als Studio- und Kulissenfilm.
