The tree is the symbol of the African conception of the world in which heaven and earth merge. In the soil, its roots live together with the ancestors. Its trunk participates in the cares of the living. Its branches and twigs rise up into the habitation of the heavenly spirits.
Symbol für das afrikanische Weltbild ist der Baum, in dem Himmel und Erde verschmelzen. Seine Wurzeln leben im Boden mit den Ahnen zusammen. Sein Stamm nimmt an den Sorgen der Lebenden teil. Seine Äste und Zweige ragen in die Wohnstätte der himmlischen Geister hinein.
