A strongly increasing number of pilgrims implies a special event. Many undertake walks of two or three weeks to be in Lalibela on a certain day. Soon, tens of thousands of white-clad believers edge themselves through the narrow streets. Dealers in souvenirs and memorabilia have their peak season.
Eine stark ansteigende Zahl von Pilgern läßt auf ein besonderes Ereignis schließen. Viele nehmen zwei- oder dreiwöchige Fußmärsche auf sich, um an einem ganz bestimmten Tag in Lalibela zu sein. Bald schon drängen sich zehntausende weißgewandete Gläubige durch die schmalen Gassen. Souvenir- und Devotionalienhändler haben Hochbetrieb.
