The death of a monarch is a natural event. After the ceremonies of embalming and mummification, taking 9 months, 9 days and 9 hours, the chiefs are laid to rest far away from the village. The graves are marked by anthropomorphic wooden steles, the so-called 'wagas'. They symbolize the dead person and his deeds. The current king is not allowed to enter this area because it would affect his ritual purity.
Der Tod eines Monarchen ist ein Naturereignis. Nach Einbalsamierungs- und Mumifizierungszeremonien, die 9 Monate, 9 Tage und 9 Stunden dauern, finden die Häuptlinge – weit außerhalb des Dorfes – ihre letzte Ruhestätte. Die Gräber sind durch anthropomorphe Holzstelen, die sogenannten Wagas, markiert. Sie symbolisieren den Toten und seine Taten. Der aktuelle König darf dieses Areal nicht betreten, weil es seine rituelle Reinheit beeinträchtigen würde.
