In the Ethiopian church there are numerous influences of Judaism, such as the circumcision and compliance with certain hygiene regulations and dietary rules. The Old Testament and the cult of the Ark of the Covenant with the Tablets of Law of Moses, which is said to be somewhere in Ethiopia, have great significance. This explains the strong identification of the Ethiopian Orthodox priests with biblical Israel.
In der äthiopischen Kirche finden sich zahlreiche Einflüsse des Judentums wie beispielsweise die Beschneidung und die Einhaltung bestimmter Reinheits- und Speisevorschriften. Große Bedeutung haben das Alte Testament und der Kult um die Bundeslade mit den Gesetzestafeln des Mose, die sich angeblich in Äthiopien befindet. Dies erklärt die starke Identifikation der äthiopisch-orthodoxen Priester mit dem biblischen Israel.
