A thick snake of tan dust slithers across Saudi Arabia, the Red Sea, and Egypt in this dramatic true-color image from 13 May 2005.

The dust is so thick that it is completely opaque for well over 1,100 km (700 mi) across its south-moving front, from the border of Iraq, across the Arabian Desert of Saudi Arabia, and eastern Egypt and the green ribbon of the Nile. Click on photo for higher resolution.
