Anaa#

Anaa is 350 km east of Tahiti. It is oval in shape, 29.5 km in length and 6.5 km wide, with a total land area of 38 km² and a population of 504 with about 350 living in the main village Tukuhora. The atoll is made up by a number of islands. The lagoon is shallow, without entrance. Although it does not have any navigable access (hence only small boats are in use in the lagoon), the water of the lagoon renews by several small channels that can be crossed on foot.

Anaa has simple but adequate accommodation and is a lovely place to relax, to cycle, or to swim, dive or fish.

A special treat will be to attend one of the local churches on Sunday to experience a typical Polynesian kind of service. Just two blocks from the church (eglisè) shown on Google map in the North of the island is a small (4 room) pension Anaa Toku Kaiga with top ratings. It offers a restaurant, a private beach area, bicycles and more. Note that on the south end of the island there is a much older church Eglise Saint-Etienne de Tematahoa that is part of French Polynesian heritage. However, you better check which of the two offers a service on the day you are considering to visit.

Of course fishing is good, and like in many places in French Polynesia spear fishing is now quite popular again: You will succeed to spear some fish with a bit of practice.

Have a look at one or both of the YouTube clips, both show beautiful parts of Anaa:
