The new glass Pavilion exhibition space of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) opened in 2004 behind Lowther Lodge, the society's main building.
Beneath the Pavilion and to the foreground is the Foyle Reading Room and the RGS library, which are covered by a sunken lawn, but which receive illumination through the bush-shaded skylights.
