Parc Güell#
In 1900 Gaudi’s friend, the industrialist Eusebi Güell, asked Gaudi to build a “garden city” where living, playing and nature were closely intertwined.
Gaudi only completed a small part, the planned further 60 villas did not find enough buyers due to all kinds of restrictions (like no fences, no trees, 80% of the property just nature, …).
Eventually, in 1922, the area was opened as Parc Güell parc güell barcelona .
This picture shows the rooftop of one of the buildings used as popular meeting place. The curved edges provide nice ceramic niches for sitting.
