The facade of the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (Saint Mary of the Flowers) Santa Maria Del Fiore, Piazza San Giovanni, Florenz, ... in Florence. Begun in 1296, the magnificent structure was not finished until 1436.
The entire cathedral complex consists of the church itself, the free-standing campanile (bell tower), and the Baptistery, which stands across the square (portion seen in upper left).
