At the top of the Reichstag building Reichstagsgebäude, Berlin, Deutschland a modern glass dome overlooks the rooftops of Berlin as well as the main hall of the parliament below. Through a mirrored cone at the centre of the dome sunlight radiates down to the parliament, which is altogether environmentally friendly and energy efficient as well as leads to a reduction of carbon emissions. In 1999 the construction was finished and opened to the public. The original dome was ruined in 1933 during the Reichstag fire and later on further destroyed by bombs during World War II and the subsequent occupation by the Soviets in 1945.
