Butaritari Atoll on Kiribati#
Kiribati is a sovereign state in Micronesia. Population is just over 110,000 , more than half of whom live on Tarawa Atoll, with Tawara the capital of Kiribati Tawara, Kiribati . The state comprises 32 atolls and reef islands and one raised coral island, Banaba.
Butaritari Butatritari is one of the atolls of Kiribati. The lagoon of Butaritari is deep and can accommodate large ships and hence has a bit of tourism. It is rich in marine resources, with a large lagoon and wide reef. It is also the most fertile of the Gilbert Islands: bananas, breadfruit and papaya grow well, and pumpkin, cabbage, cucumber, eggplant and other vegetables can be grown here. Butaritari atoll has a land area of close to 14 km2 and a population of about 4.500.
