The Udawalawe National Park was created to provide a living space for wild animals, mainly because they lost some habitats when the dam was built. The area of the National park was used for shifting agricultural cultivation before, so the farmers had to be gradually removed. The National park is mainly famous for its asian elephants and the water birds, but is also home to numerous other species.
Der Udawalawe Nationalpark wurde gemacht, um einen Lebensraum für Wildtiere zu schaffen, vor allem, da diese einige Habitate verloren hatten, als der Damm gebaut wurde. Das Gebiet des Nationalparks wurde früher für Wanderfeldbau benutzt, daher mussten die Bauern schrittweise vom Gelände verwiesen werden. Der Nationalpark ist hauptsächlich für die asiatischen Elefanten und die vielen Wasservögel bekannt, ist jedoch auch zu Hause für verschiedenste andere Tiere und Pflanzen.
