Galle galle is a city on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. It was known as Gimhathiththa until the Portugueses arrived in the 16th century and Galle became main port. But the heyday of the city was reached during the Dutch colonial period. The city was extremely fortified by the Dutch and is also a good example for the mix of portuguese architecture and native culture. The Galle fort is a World Heritage site.

Galle galle ist eine Stadt an der Südküste Sri Lankas. Bevor die Portugiesen im 16. Jahrhundert dort eintrafen und Galle der wichtigste Hafen wurde, hieß die Stadt Gimhathiththa. Ihre Blütezeit hatte die Stadt aber während der niederländischen Kolonialzeit. Die Stadt wurde von den Niederländern extrem befestigt und ist außerdem ein gutes Beispiel für eine Mischung aus portugiesischer Architektur und der heimischen Kultur. Die Galle Festung ist Weltkulturerbe.
