The 20 room estate is built completely with wood of the coconut palm and should have been a showpiece of Philippine craftsmanship. However, the pope refused the accommodation, filling the wife of the president with indignation: The pope thought that the investment costs should have been used for useful purposes, like for clean drinking water for the population.
Since then the peculiar palace serves as a setting for weddings and television productions.
Das 20 Zimmer-Anwesen besteht vollständig aus dem Holz der Kokosnusspalme und sollte ein Schaustück philippinischer Handwerkskunst darstellen. Der Papst jedoch lehnte die Unterkunft zur Entrüstung der Präsidentengattin mit dem Argument ab, man hätte die Investitionskosten wohl für sinnvollere Zwecke wie z.B. sauberes Trinkwasser für die Bevölkerung verwenden können. Seither dient der eigentümliche Palast als Kulisse für Hochzeiten und Fernsehproduktionen.
