The Bhaktapur National Museum at the western end of the Royal Palace contains an extensive collection of Tantric cloth paintings and palm-leaf manuscripts, metal, stone, and wooden objects.

Some of them date back to the 12th century.

The entrance is guarded by two lions, one male and one female. Next to them are statues of Hanuman (the monkey god) in his four-armed tantric form, and Vishnu, in her form of Narsingha.
