The front view of Monticello, Thomas Jeffersons plantation home, near Charlottesville, Virginia. The third president of the United States completed the original house in 1772.

In 1794 he began to rebuild the structure, blending his own architectural style with his favorite European designs. Remodeling continued on and off for most of the remainder of his life.
