After a short tour of the city we visit the Saxman village in Ketchikan Ketchikan,Alaska .

This is an Indian village (Totem Heritage Center) with many totem poles, each of them with a cute story, like the one where a boy sticks his arm into a giant clam which closes on his arm (see next picture).

The Totem Heritage Center was established in 1976 to preserve endangered 19th century totem poles retrieved from uninhabited village sites near Ketchikan. Those original poles are displayed at the Center in conjunction with other totems and native Alaskan artifacts.
