Part V - St. Lucia#

By Rainer Kroisamer: Report from a journey through the Caribbean Seas starting at Puerto Rico, visiting St.Thomas, Sint Maarten, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados.

Ruggedly beautiful and lushly tropical, St. Lucia is the second largest of the Lesser Antilles’ Windward Islands and it is blessed with a magnificent shoreline. The island is a rich tapestry of forested mountains, gentle valleys, banana plantations, wide beaches, rocky volcanic mountains, giant tree ferns and wild orchids.

St. Lucia - Strolling around Pigeon Island National Park. Lovely trees and benches to relax and get cover from the sun. To get to Pigeon Island it is best to take a local bus just outside from the ferry terminal. Usually local buses have no numbers so you need to ask the driver which direction he is going. Also, buses usually do not depart a certain hour, they set of once the bus is full.

After some swimming, a nice walk in the Pigeon Island Park and a refreshment in the Captain`s cellar pub, we set sails again and head out for Bridgetown, Barbados, our next port of call. Travel distance is 117 nautical miles (= 217 kilometers).
