By volume of water, lake Titicaca is the largest lake in South America on the border of Peru and Bolivia, 3.812 m of elevation above sea level.

Taquile is one of its islands on the Peruvian side of the lake, 45 km offshore from the city of Puno. About 2,200 people live on this island.
