Remembrance Day in Guatemala#

Like in most countries November 1 is dedicated to the memory of all beloved ones who are not alive any more. This is also true in Gutaemala: Cemetries and graves are decorated with flowers, and are visited with small gifts from those still alive. (First two pictures) Yet there is also another component: an attempt to contact the souls in the sky by flying a huge number of kites of all shapes, colours, designs, and sizes...some 10 m large! It is a true spectacle yet you better keep your head up all the time to see if one of the kites comes down inadvertantently on you!

And afterwards there is a festival of huge dimensions....
