The Castillo de San Felipe de Lara at the entrance to Lake Izabal in eastern Guatemala. The colonial-era fort was sited at the entrance to the lake to protect Spanish ships transporting products to and from Havana and Spain. The locale is 80 km (50mi) west of the port Santo Tomas de Castillo.
