Blaauwklippen Wine Estate, one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, was founded in 1682 by Gerrit Jansz Visser on the slopes of Stellenbosch Mountain. The vineyard is surrounded by grey-blue granite cliffs (Blaauwklippen means "blue rocks"), which store the sun's warmth and create an optimal climate for grape-vines.

Often these vines are served on Lufthansa flights.
