Approximately 50 km before Swakopmund we arrive at the place on which many of the "most extraordinary plants of the world" grow, the Welwitschia. The plant was discovered by the Austrian Friedrich Welwitsch. For more information on him and the plants look up his biography. This picture shows a 200 years old female specimen.

Etwa 50 km vor Swakopmund erreichen wir jene Stelle, an der besonders viele der "ungewöhnlichsten Pflanzen der Welt" wachsen, die Welwitischias. Sie wurden vom Österreicher Welwitsch entdeckt.
